Lead Pastor

Tim Coburn

Tim grew up in Folsom, CA, and after high school met Jesus in a deeply formative way and sensed a call to serve Christ through the church. Since that time from 2000-2012, Tim has served as a youth intern, a college group intern, co-pastoring a church internship program, director of youth programs at a Christian Community Development non-profit, worship pastor, youth pastor, and associate pastor. Being a part of 2 different church planting teams and one church replanting team, he saw how God was at work through starting new churches in communities to bring about sustainable, long-term kingdom renewal.

In 2012 he, his wife (Vanessa), and their family sensed an invitation to start a new church for the people of the urban core of Sacramento. After much prayer, church planting training, and godly counsel, they started Society Church in February of 2013 after assembling a launch team of strangers, friends, and family.

From 2012 to current Tim has served as the founding and lead pastor at Society Church in Sacramento, CA. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Ministerial Arts and Biblical Studies. Tim just finished up his year of preparation to be a part of the Order of the Mustard Seed (OMS), a lay, ecumenical, religious order under the House of Bishops (Anglican Church) and overseen by 24/7 prayer. This church order is an order that values being true to Christ, kind to people, and taking the gospel to the nations. He is an Ordained Minister as a Christian Non-Denominational Pastor of Society Church. He is also currently pursuing his Master’s Degree in leadership and theology at Western Seminary PDX.

Little known, fun fact: Tim moved to Truckee, CA, after high school to pursue professional snowboarding, he ended up getting hurt, and it didn’t work out. God had different plans!
