Our Shared Rhythms

To grow together as followers of Jesus, we have adopted a few shared Rhythms that we are committed to embodying both individually and as a community.

The Rhythm of Scripture & Prayer

Romans 10:17: So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18: Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

The two most important ways to connect with God are Scripture and Prayer. These two are not mutually exclusive; rather, they are meant to be engaged in together. When we read Scripture, the main goal is not to gain information, but to experience illumination (God speaking to you through the Bible). When we pray, rather than simply rattling off our wish list to God, we are praying according to God’s Word and God’s will.

Simply put: When we read, we should read prayerfully. When we pray, we should pray Biblically.

Ways to Get Started

Stretch Goal

  • Complete a one-year Bible reading plan, prayerfully.

The Rhythm of Worship & Community

Acts 2:42-46: They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer…. Day by day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts.

The very first verse about the regular rhythms and activities of the first local church in Jerusalem tells us that they met together regularly in the temple courts (for worship) and in their homes (for fellowship and prayer). Something powerful happens when we are engaged in our local church in both ways.

Public worship is more than just attending a service to get “fed,” it’s both a place to be known and the place to worship God passionately and authentically. It’s also a time when we lovingly and sacrificially use our God-given gifts and talents to serve one another.

Community groups are more than a Bible Study, they are a place we go weekly to share our life together, to encourage each other in our faith, and to be pastored more holistically. It’s also an environment to engage in the gifts of the Spirit in our prayer and ministry to each other.

Ways to Get Started

  • Join a volunteer team.
  • Sign up for a Community Group or discipleship class (Alpha, EHS).

Stretch Goal

  • After attending groups, volunteer to co-lead or host a group.

The Rhythm of Compassion & Mission

Colossians 1:12-16: Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion… Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly.

Jesus’ intention for his followers is that we share his Good News with others, both with words, and without. We believe wholeheartedly in embodying the love of Jesus (living “incarnationally”).

James 1:27 says that Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.

Therefore, we ask everyone that calls Society Church their home church to regularly practice sharing their story of faith in Jesus with others, and serving their community in a tangible way.

Ways to Get Started

  • Write down a summary of your faith story (before Jesus, meeting Jesus, life with God).
  • Sign up for the Compassion Team.

Stretch Goal

  • Make a prayer list of friends and family you’d like to introduce to Jesus; invite them to food/coffee and think of a way you can bless them.
