“And Mary gave birth to her firstborn, a Son. She wrapped Him in swaddling cloths and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.” Luke 2:7
The gospel writer, Luke, is trying to say something about the circumstances of Jesus birth. The long awaited Savior had come to Israel to free his people, but they missed him. The prophecies talked about this One that would come, yet there was no room for him when he arrived. There was no room for him amidst the cultural context, religious establishment and the political landscape he was born into.
As we enter into the Christmas season we are starting a new teaching series called Prepare Him Room, its all about making space for God amidst a cluttered life. Just like our homes, cars, garages, wallets and purses get cluttered, so do our lives. This Christmas we want to clear out the unnecessary distractions in our lives and refocus on what matters most.
This series will be about re-establishing a heart of patient expectancy for God to arrive amidst our everyday ordinary lives. It will be about preparing room for an inconvenient journey with God, preparing for the new life he brings, preparing room to explore curiosity and lastly preparing room for him to dwell in our hearts & lives.
